This riveting program of world premieres is inspired by folklore and literature. The concert begins with a piece by Dr. Troy Gifford about Latin America's ruthless beast of legend, the Chupacabra. The second work is a chamber symphony by our founder and artistic director, Jamie Wehr. It is set to the thoughtful writings of native Sanford poet Dr. Stephen Caldwell Wright. The concert closes with "Angel of the Odd" by Guggenheim Fellow Dr. Randall Woolf. This flute concerto, featuring UCF Associate Professor Nora Lee Garcia, is based on Edgar Allen Poe's story in which an otherworldly creature made of kegs and wine bottles appears to declare that he is responsible for all the bizarre occurrences in the world. Chaos ensues!
